After the excitement of last week with many relevant aspects and transits we will start into a new round of adjusting and reorienting ourselves with Sun in Libra. This is the autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of spring below the equator. Days are getting shorter and the general energy is turning more inwards. We will discuss the planetary color for September 21 and 22, 2009. This discussion of the planets and their dynamics is also applicable whenever you have those planetary constellations in your own, personal chart.

The equinox is one of the pivotal points of the year and being in Libra it asks us for choices in the direction we want to take for the rest of the year. Let us have a look at the qualities of Libra and what it brings to the table for us.

Libra: The Judge and Harmonizer
The ruling planet of Libra is the goddess Venus and the time of the year for the Sun in Libra is September 23 to October 22. Libra is attributed to the element air and the masculine gender. With that we have a sign which is mentally oriented and that shows in how the Libra will approach life and love.

The symbol for Libra, a scale, indicates Libra’s strong need for balance. Libras are very oriented toward other people and skillfully tuned into their needs and emotions. Their preference in relationships is for harmony and love—they are peacemakers. Others are drawn to them for their sociable charm. Putting together those qualities, they make wonderful psychologists and mediators, as well as friends and partners. But because they have the ability to see both sides of things, it can be very difficult for them to make decisions. It would be good for them to remember that sometimes it is better to just decide on a less then ideal choice and get moving instead of staying on the fence of indecision.

Moon in Scorpio

We constantly have to monitor our thoughts and fears in order to stay in balance. And this is exactly what we need to do now with total clarity and determination. In relationships we are the most vulnerable and unconsciously reactive to outer stimulus. We usually are very emotional, tend to be righteous and truly think if just the other person would change in that and that way, we would be happy.

Of course we can not expect to change our partner — we can only learn to adjust our own expectation to a level of a more harmonic togetherness. Most struggle and fights in relationships are our desperate trying to fix something in the outside in order to feel better inside. Has it ever worked for you? It never has for me!

All your power and freedom is inside of you and how you adjust your thoughts and feelings without the dependency on outer circumstances. That could mean that you keep focusing onto the parts of your partner you love and pull your attention away from the parts you are reacting to. When I want to focus onto something I love about my husband I focus onto his love for our cat Angelito. Angelito came to us 8 days old and we bottle feed him around the clock. It was an amazing time to care for such a vulnerable being and was a big gift for both of us. Even if we both were his caregivers he bonded more deeply with my husband. His mother was dying at that time and he was in a very vulnerable place. The tiny kitten would sit on his chest, on his heart and they had that special sweetness and melting. Astrology is one of the oldest sciences mankind has known. It is a Vedanga which means one of the branches, parts or components of the Vedas. It helps in understanding Veda mantras. Astrology is often referred to as the eyes of Vedas. It is believed that a proper spiritual knowledge is not possible without understanding the karmic influences in a person’s life. Astrology is an effective tool to understand the same.

The astrologers of yesteryears like Parashara, Jamini etc were generally Rishis. They laid down different dasa systems like Vimshottari, Yogini, Chara, Mandook etc. They wanted us to crosscheck astrological indications through different methods before giving any prediction. Parashara has described many such steps in his book “Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra”.

Many causes can be cited which lead to erroneous astrological predictions. Some of the causes which lead to prediction failures are discussed below.

a) Mixing Hora Jyotish (Native astrology) with Medini Jyotish (Mundane astrology):-

Hora Jyotish is concerned with astrological prediction of individuals. For this there are tenets to be followed as prescribed by Jaimini Rishi, Parashara Rishi etc. This is the field of native astrology or Hora Shastra.

On the other hand Medini Jyotish is concerned with prediction about the land and the people on a larger scale. Any celestial happening like Surya Grahan (solar eclipse) or Chandra Grahan (lunar eclipse) affects the world as a whole. The occurrence of earthquakes, wars, Tsunamis, droughts, floods and other ethnical issues can be predicted through the system of Medini Jyotish.  My esteemed Guru Shri K. N. Rao says that it is not correct to divide the world in 12 parts for mundane matters as is the practice in Hora astrology.

However, it has been found that astrologers try to connect the effects of celestial events like Surya Grahan and Chandra Grahan with the horoscopes of individuals based on their rashi. If a Tsunami or earthquake becomes a killer, it will kill everyone irrespective of rashi. Chance survivors cannot claim that they survived because they belonged to a particular rashi. However, there may be dasa systems as per Hora supporting them in surviving.

Therefore, one of the causes of failure of astrological prediction is mixing the system of Medini for prediction of events of individuals. 

b) Ignoring Shodasvarga (16 divisional charts) in making predictions about individuals:-

It has been a habit among recent astrologers to completely ignore the divisional charts while giving predictions. The following reasons can be cited for this practice:

• The time of birth required should be correct for the effective use of such divisional charts.

• The calculation and interpretation of such charts requires skill which comes only by proper study of astrology under the guidance of a competent Guru.

• If predictions are to be based on divisional charts, time must be given to the astrologer because the study and analysis of charts takes time. In today’s fast world every thing is required by the click of button which is not possible.

• Birth time rectification is necessary for proper use of divisional chart for which cross-checking of many events has to be done with the consulter.

Astrological predictions can fail if they are not based on interpretation of divisional charts.

c) Error of astrologer:-
 
This may be the third cause and a very important cause for failure of astrological prediction. No profession is 100% foolproof. Errors are natural and they occur.

A medical doctor prescribes medicines for ailments. A correct diagnosis of ailment is necessary for medicine to be effective. If the diagnosis is not correct, the medication will not be effective and the patient may continue to suffer.

An astrologer can be put in the same category. People come to him with horoscopes to seek advice on their problems and difficulties. The astrologer should be competent enough to diagnose the problems in the light of established astrological techniques. True diagnosis can be done only by a professional astrologer who has depth of knowledge.

If diagnosis is done carelessly or if the astrologer is not fully conversant with astrological techniques, the predictions may fail. For this, the science of astrology cannot be blamed because like any divine knowledge, astrology is complete in itself. It is only the human interpretation that can be questioned.

d) Divine Intervention in prediction:-

In the battle ground of Mahabharata Lord Krishna showed his Vishwaroop to Arjun for counseling him and for reminding him to his duties. Arjun saw that the Kaurva’s were going into the mouth of Lord Krishna. But he did not see Abhimanyu (his son) going into the mouth of the lord. Abhimanyu also died in the battle but God concealed this information from Arjun. Hence, what God wants to conceal, no astrologer will be able to predict.

The second important thing is that astrology is a divine knowledge and every prediction needs divine intervention for its fulfillment. Egoless-ness is the primary qualification for a competent astrologer. If he is full of ego, his predictions are likely to fail because in every prediction the grace of the almighty is needed. An astrologer who meditates or prays regularly and is egoless, knowledgeable and who thinks himself as only a Nimit (conduit) can give predictions which are not likely to fail.

e) The failure of prophets of doom:-

On several occasions in the last century, the end of the world was predicted due to particular arrangements of planet on certain occasions. Almost all such prediction came from western astrologers. In the 21st century also the first such prediction has come according to which the world is going to end in 2012.

Earlier predictions have failed and this prediction is also going to fail. This means that the astrologers who are predicting such events are casually treating everything without any basis and without sound research on the subject.

Some of the western astrologers say that astrology originated in Babylon, Egypt and Rome. They are reluctant to accept that India was the leading country in this field and persons like Aryabhatta and Varahmihir gave it a sound mathematical footing. The system of Vedic astrology is a far more competent system of analyzing future happenings.

f) Country, Time and Individual:-

Parashara emphasized the need for consideration of Desh (country), Kaal (time) and Patra (individual) before giving any prediction. Child marriage was the practice in old age. Astrological predictions conformed to those practices. But, times have changed and astrology should also march with time. Child marriage has become illegal.

In Vedic period agriculture was the main occupation. Today there are hundreds of occupations. Astrological predictions should correlate to the present day occupation in order to be more meaningful. Continuous transformation of society is taking place and the astrologer should understand the trend to make relevant predictions.

Conclusion:-

Some important causes of erroneous predictions have been discussed in this article. There may be some other causes as well. Astrological remedies sometimes do not work because predictions themselves remain incorrect.

New Moon is in a Close Conjunction with Sun and Mercury
This New Moon is special because it ties in with a Sun, Saturn and Mercury conjunction all happening in opposition to Uranus. A New Moon always presents a new start out of regeneration. In earthy Virgo it feeds the collective struggle to raise our consciousness to the occasion. The Mercury is retrograde and might have a tendency to slip back into old ideas and is opposing the new paradigm of Uranus. And then we have all that Virgo energy with four planets in the sign.

Saturn is also in Conjunction with the New Moon
Virgo has the message for us to pay attention, focus, simplify, consolidate and find a healthy balance within our means. Saturn is with us for the ride and teaches us honesty with ourselves and tightening the belt. Saturn is a master to adjust to dire circumstances and make the best out of them. We sure can learn to live without the newest cell phone or gadget. The consumerism we take for granted is part of the trouble we face with the global warming and the missing conscience in the corporate world. We might not be able to directly impact the bigger situation but we can contribute in our own little way. We are the grass roots of the grass roots movement. We can make a difference as individuals with where and how we spend our money and how we deal with others.

Uranus Opposition
Uranus is the rebel, the visionary, the one who brings in the new and innovative spirit of change. He opposes the tradition and hierarchic structure and Saturn is representing just that. This is the third out of five opposition between these two players. The next two will be in April 26, 2010 and July, 2010 so we will have time to integrate. This Saturn Uranus opposition is only happening every 40 years or so and always corresponds to worldwide political, social and economical change. The last meeting was in the mid sixties, a very inspiring and turbulent period was setting the tone for tremendous changes. –Make Love not War– was the slogan of the time and the beginning of the end of the war in Vietnam and a huge movement for peace all over the world.

With the New Moon and the Sun illuminating the shadow and the good parts of both, the rebel and the mythic reaper are exposed in their contrast of hierarchy and grass root movement, entitlement versus freedom and equality, and entrenchment and progress.

People with planets in 20 to 30 degree in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces will feel these oppositions very personal and acutely.

Sun Square Pluto
This all coincides with the square of the Sun to Pluto on September 20, 2009. We know Pluto as the transformer and God of the Underworld. Deep transformation and inner alchemy is his trademark. Remember that a square is a hard and challenging aspect and requires our attention.

All in all you can see that we are living in true times of changes. I think the most important decision we can make is to not give in to fear. We can choose to orient ourselves towards positive thoughts about something in our life. We have the power to direct our thoughts and lift our spirit whenever we pay conscious attention. If we use the information we can gain from the planets in the heavens, we can take appropriate action. And with Virgo we are guided to be smart, make adjustments, take care for the details in our own life but also ask ourselves some questions of how we can be useful for the bigger whole and what it is we have to contribute. Where can we concentrate and focus to prioritize or set limits. What are your goals in life? Where do you see yourself in five years down the road? Or next year?

I love his work. His book –Unlimited Power –is a classic and as helpful for us now as it ever was. And there are many Seminars, DVD or CD programs of his available you might enjoy.

Now I like to invite you to sit with a cup of tea and your journal and think about it. Everything ever manifested has been an idea first. Our plans take form through the filter of our energetic blueprint and thoughts. Idea plus action culminates in a result. Writing in your journal is planting the seeds for things to come.

So I hope you enjoy this time with yourself and write down your concerns, fears, hopes and dreams. There is magic in writing a journal. It serves as an inquiry into deeper levels of your consciousness, sharpens your self perception and keeps you honest with yourself. It is a friend who just mirrors your feelings and thoughts without judgment or reactivity.

The Gem for the Day is the Chrysocolla
I have chosen the Chrysocolla for today because it is not an expensive stone and you can get a sizable chunk either tumbled or rough to put into your pocket or for meditation purposes. It is a good stone to have for his physically balancing qualities especially for the heart.

Chrysocolla has an amorphous (non crystalline) structure and is a fairly soft stone with a Mohs’ hardness of 2 to 4. Its color is a mixture of blue and green. If it is inter grown with Turquoise and Malachite it is called Eilat stone. Because of its opaqueness Chrysocolla channels the high energies of Uranus and makes it available to us on Earth. So it will be a good stone for helping the Uranus energies to integrate with the earthy requirements of Saturn. It might bring moments of eureka and break through in areas least expected.

By connecting the heart with the throat chakra, it helps us to bring to expression our deepest feelings, making this a wonderful stone for writers and artists. Chrysocolla nourishes the heart and balances the emotions. Thus we will be supported to stay on track and not give in to fears.  

Chrysocolla reminds us that we are unlimited spiritual beings living a human experience. It helps us to create a beautiful environment around ourselves by allowing us to feel the spirit and connection with minerals, plants and herbs, and the animal kingdom.
