The highlights for this otherwise quiet week are Mercury redirecting his energies and a Full Moon in Aries. Even if these are notable astrological events we are having a little breather after being hammered by all those strong constellations lately. This astrological forecast is for the 40th week from September 28 to October 4. You will be able to find satisfying information about the specific constellations beyond the time frame, because it applies in general to the constellations we talk about.

Moon in Aquarius with a Trine to a Libra Sun on Tuesday

This Moon position will strengthen the presence of the wide conjunction of the threesome Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune. Aquarius as the rebellions spirit and trendsetter is forging ahead into new adventures. Change is in the air and we need to release our resistance. We will feel socially inclined with Moon in Aquarius and Libra Sun, both in air signs. We will be mentally busy and active and it might start us into new directions, interrupting the flow of the old. Flexibility is demanded but also easier achieved as usual.

Moon Floating into Pisces Opposing Venus on Wednesday
The mental framework will soften and feelings will be dreamy with the Moon in Pisces. We might feel a deep inner longing for the divine, for a deeper connection with ourselves and our loved ones. Pisces has this inner knowing of our oneness and invites us to experience that connectedness through unconditional love, meditation, nature, art and contribution to the whole. Moon and Venus, the two archetypal feminine figures challenge our self identity as women. We are invited to bring the Virgo and Pisces energies into alignment inside of us. There are the mental qualities, sense for detail and order of the Virgo opposing  the seemingly chaos of the divine order of Pisces. They meet in the middle where trust and faith into the divine can be added to our earthly actions.

Moon Blazes into Fullness in Aries on Saturday

A Full Moon means that the Moon is in opposition with the Sun shedding light onto the opposing sign. Each Full Moon will be different because of the different themes. Full Moon means the emotional lunar cycle has reached its fullest expression and energy. We all feel that to some extent. Full Moon keeps us up at night and bathes the night in her silver rays. My cats are all revved up and keep going out all night, having important cat business to tend to. My husband who is a Cancer does not sleep well around Full Moon. You want to be aware how this Full Moon might impact you in your own chart and see what planets and houses it might trigger. This is the area where the emotional tides may go high and sweep you along with it.

In astrology it always serves us well for our interpretation of a planet in a specific sign to look at the opposing one and see where both of them can meet and compliment each other. With a Full Moon that is especially important if we do not want to become overwhelmed by impulsive reactivity.

With Moon in Aries and Sun in Libra
we perceive the conflict between individuality and responsibility, impulsive action versus thought out choices, freedom of the individual versus loving relationships or as simple as me versus you. With Aries Moon we will feel stronger emotions, more easily irritated and more ready for a fight then usual. Subjects and sore themes in relationships will be pushed to the forefront of our awareness and we have to deal with it. Emotions which might have been building up throughout the Moon cycle will not be ignored any longer.

The good news is that the warrior spirit of Aries can be harnessed for honesty and truth in the service of love and connection. He can be a knight and warrior of the heart in service of the Goddess Venus, a loving consort. It will serve you well to make time for your partner, your friends, maybe have a little party. And it is a good time for love making and romance, after you cleared the space off obstacles.

Mercury Goes Direct again on Wednesday
With Mercury turning direct we do not have any more excuses to get our communication channels going. Everything in life is dependant on our ability to communicate and everything related to Mercurial devices like computer, transportation and electrical devices. Most of our communication these days we do via computer, phone or iphone devices.

I know with Mercury retrograde there is always the temptation to blame it all on good old Mercury if something does not go right in that arena. But even with the retrograde Mercury we are responsible and able to direct our attention where it is needed and adjust to the challenges of the moment. Now we will have a few wobbly days of transition and some things might get easier from now on.

Mercury is in his Own Sign Virgo in a Wide Conjunction with Saturn
The Mercury position in Virgo is a mental frame for us where we pay attention to details and think things through. We can come up with practical solutions and find better ways (Saturn) to deal with problems. Some problematic knots will come undone now easily. It is a time for answers if we ask the right question. It still takes our intention and attention to unravel the mysteries and find a balance between Virgo and Pisces. As we talked about with the Moon in Pisces in the beginning, we need to find the middle path. The balance is found between the need to control and tending to details in the physical world on one hand. On the other hand is the spiritual guidance from the divine forces in our life and our willingness to listen and move from a place of faith and gratitude through our physical activities.

Alexandrite, the Miracle Stone
To help you in that process of adjustment for this week I recommend the Alexandrite which is a wonderful gemstone frequently used in jewelry. It is a stone which very unique nature has a lot to offer. His astrological signature is created out of his color, chemical composition and crystal structure which give him his unique qualities and applications.

Alexandrite has Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Mars qualities to share and balance for us.
“Alexandrite is one of the most astonishing gems because it changes its color from green in daylight to red in artificial light. Alexandrite is a variety of Chrysoberyl and is very rare and expensive. Today it is mined mainly in Sri Lanka and Rhodesia.

This is a stone for the queen or king in us because of its great value, both monetary and metaphysical.

As it changes from green to red, Alexandrite shows us that our so-called objective perception of the world of objects may change drastically by shining a different light on it, encouraging us to view experiences from different points of view. This gemstone strengthens the heart by opening our awareness of different perspectives. It reminds us that it is never the experience itself that is good or bad; what is important is always our perception, evaluation, and judgment of events.

Alexandrite stays by our side as a faithful friend, helping us through transitions in our relationships with friends and loved ones. It nourishes the heart during the process of grieving and letting go of a beloved one, whether our loss is due to death or other forms of separation.” (This part is taken from my book: Jewelry and Gems for Self-Discovery: Choosing Gemstones That Delight the Eye & Strengthen the Soul, published by Llewellyn)

The transition of Saturn from Leo sign to Virgo sign on 9th September 2009 will have far reaching effects on the polity of India. The foundations of these changes were laid when Saturn was in Leo. It is said that every event has two aspects- a good aspect and a bad aspect. Saturn is inimical to Sun. Therefore, the results were largely of negative nature while Saturn was in Leo sign.

But, Saturn is also known as a ruthless administrator of justice. It uses exemplary punishments for wrong-doers. This powerful planet is also known for its benevolence to the underprivileged and the down-trodden. Some good aspects of the stay of Saturn in Leo sign are related to the same section of the society.

The United Nations says that 50% of the world’s poor live in South Asia. India is the largest country in this geographical area with a population of over 1 billion. Many of them are poor. This attracted the benevolence of Saturn. People in India were only marginally affected even during the current recession. Two important points may be identified.

a) India has a democratic form of government where the power of the people is supreme. In the parliamentary elections of May 2009 many “Bahubali” (Don Type) candidates lost the election and some genuine and honest candidates were elected. Many of the leaders of questionable integrity are either behind bars or are fighting legal battles.

b) The plight of the poor in the country was never in sharp focus in the past. However, the government has taken some very fast steps to solve their problems in recent months. Three important steps were taken by the Government for the welfare of the underprivileged and the poor. The scope of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme has been enlarged. Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission has been made more effective. A bill for compulsory education has been passed by the parliament.

All these steps will transform the polity of India in times to come. A beginning was made in the period when Saturn was in Leo sign. We can clearly see the connection. The hands of the powerful planets remain invisible but signals are always loud and clear.

In the next two and half years we can expect some changes because of the comfortable stay of Saturn in the Virgo sign which is owned by Mercury. Incidentally, Virgo happens to be the 5th house in the horoscope of Independent India drawn on the basis of Independence Day on 15th August 1947 (midnight).

For the first time the poor of the country will get some kind of job security under National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme which will become one of the largest such operating programs in the world.

The filth, squalor and slums of urban India are well known. The pace of urbanization in the country is very fast and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission will be strengthened for tackling the urban problems. There will be related projects for development of housing facilities and rehabilitation of slums. If this Programme is honestly implemented, the poor and the underprivileged of the urban India will also benefit.

The fifth house in the horoscope is seen for education. The bill for compulsory education has been passed by the parliament. The system of board examination is also going to change. Saturn is a planet which represents change and we will continue seeing changes in education sector. Many new programs can be formulated for welfare of children of the nation.

The country suffered from “brain drain” problems in the 1980’s and 1990’s. However, the opportunities in the country have now become attractive and attraction will increase in the coming years which will reverse the trend of brain drain. Time is coming for “brain gain” because Indians working in foreign lands want to return home for living with extended family.

The composition of the Rajya Sabha may also change due to this transit. The representation in the council of ministers of the government of India from Rajya Sabha is likely to increase. The government is likely to work with a clear determination. There may be some inter-ministerial disputes also. However, it will not affect the stability of the government.

As per the system of timing in Vedic astrology, India is currently running the Mahadasa of Sun (period of Sun). Sun in India’s horoscope is placed in the 3rd house. This indicates that India will have diplomatic capability to tackle persistent problems with its neighbors. Saturn’s transit in Virgo indicates that the world community cannot browbeat India and coerce it for taking steps which are not in the national interest. The country will also be able to crush militancy in its homeland.

About predictions in astrology

This is the second article by me and all my articles are based on the practical happenings of one’s life.

Normally the future predictions in astrology are based on planetary disposition in the individuals chart. The basic fundamentals of predictions are in all cases are made as  given by our ancient texts. But it has been my experienec for over 30 years that these predictions either miserably fail and/ or partially it happens. I thought it fit to conduct a research on more than 10000 horoscopes, to find out what was the predictions and what happened to the native?.

To my surprise I found that reasons for failures are due to overlooking certian fundamentals. The failures pointed to the fact that planets strength are determined blindly than its reality in the chart. To understand this point, I would like to explain as follows:

Planets looking to be in exaltation /ruling should not be construed to be powerful/beneficial etc., and its powers are controlled by disposition of 4th/5th,9th/10th house lords/planets located therein. The reasons for the above are that unless the individuals 5th /9th houses and its lords / planets occupy the same are assessed, there is no point in looking at other houses/planets.

The fundamentals of my approach to astrology are based on the fact that unless the 5th house/9th house ( houses indicating what kind of life he/she will have in this generation), are beneficial other planets do not get any beneficial powers in the chart. These houses represent the good deeds/bad deeds received from mothers family (4th house), fathers family (9th house). Unless these two sides bless the individual, there will be no beneficial effects for the natives. Also by assessing these houses, a good astrologer can easily find out as to what the forefathers have done. All their good deeds/ misdeeds are visible when deeep analysis are made.

I would like to present case histories in my articles in future for the benefit of visitors and I welcome reactions, views on my article.

How the planets act on individuals?

It has been my endeavour to always assess the planets and its impact on human beings for the past 30 years.

I have been watching many people predicting future and also guide them in the endeavour to suceed in their efforts.

Almost all predictions are based on effects of planets positioned in the native chart . Also the effects of planets are assessed on the yogas prescribed in our ancient texts.

But I am of the opinion and has been practising the facts that all the planets positioned in horoscope works on the purva punya strength of the native. This has to be assessed first by analysing the 5th and 9 th houses of the chart. The 5th house denotes punya/sins acquired through maternal side and 9th house denotes punya/sins acquired through paternal side. These are most important features and if horoscopes are analysed this way, I find very good results.

I study these houses first and do not make further analysis. I try to explain reasons for their sufferings and/or well being and advise the native to find out their poorva janma through their maternal/paternal side. TO my surprise i found that it works 100% perfectly. then I started applying same principles for everyone too. It has also helped to do parikara ( rectification of sins), by adopting unique method of going back to their places where they have committed the same and take  care of the people ( for whom my native has committed sins), made to suffer was advised to do some benefecial things depending on the nature of sufferings. I found that it works 100% perfectly. But this is a very tough method and it takes quiet a lot of time. I have been practising this method and would like to have many horoscopes of people suffering from severe problems which could not be solved by any other means.

If any of the readers could not understand what I mean and would like to pursue this, can write to me and I will answer everyone to their satisfaction.

Navratri – Religious Significance and Puja Vidhi

Navratri – Religious Significance and Puja Vidhi

Navratri is a festival popularly known as the festival of worship and dance. The word Navaratri literally means nine nights in Sanskrit; Nava meaning Nine and Ratri meaning nights. During these nine nights and days, nine forms of Shakti/Devi i.e. female divinity are worshipped. The nine-day festival of Navratri is held in honor of the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga.

The religious significance behind the celebration of Navratri is that the nine days are divided and devoted to the Trinity of God worshipped in a female form.

In Hindu mythology the festival is hugely celebrated around the world as the victory of good over evil as the Goddess Shakti (Maa Durga) killed buffalo – headed demon, Mahishasura after a long battle of nine days and night on the tenth day, which is celebrated as Vijaya Dashmi Such adoration to Mother Goddess is unique to Hinduism. Also dusshera is celebrated on the same day as Lord Rama with the blessings of Maa Durga has won over Ravana. The festival also marks the arrival of winter season, a period when nature undergoes several climatic changes. Goddess Shakti in the nine forms, Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmachaarini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmaanda, Skanda Maa, Maa Kaatyayani, Maa Kaalratri, Maa Mahagauri and Maa Sidhidaarti is worshipped during these nine days for good heath, wealth, prosperity, knowledge and auspiciousness.

Navratri in 2009 will begin from September 19 till 27 September.

Rituals for performing Puja during Navratri

Navratri puja is very simple and not very complicated. One can easily observe the fast; even if one cannot observe the fast he can simply recite mantra “Om Ang Haring Kalimg Shreeng Maha Durgay Namah”. One must carefully work upon his/her aahar (food), vyavhaar (behaviour) and acharan (character) during the time of Navratri.

Aahar – One should always avoid non vegetarian foods and “Satvik” food like fruits, Kutu Ka Aata, Singara Ka Aata, Curd and Potatoes should be consumed. Usage of Onion and Garlic should be avoided.

Vyavhaar and Acharan – During Navratri festival all devotees should worship the female deity with spiritual emotion (bhav)

Here is the method for performing Navratri Puja

Get your house cleaned and ready. You are inviting Goddess into the home. Usually this is done on the Amavasya, a day before the beginning of Navratri.

On the first day of the Navaratri, a small bed of mud (taken from any auspicious place) is prepared in the puja room of the house and barley seeds are sown over it. On this Bed a Kalash made of Earthen/ Copper is kept and filled with water. Above the pot a bowl filled with rice is kept. A dry Coconut wrapped with mango leaves is then kept over this kalash. This Kalash is believed to be a symbolic form of Goddess Durga. By keeping kalash one invocates the goddess in the Kalash.

On the tenth day, the shoots are about 3 – 5 inches in length. After the puja, these seedlings are pulled out and given to devotees as a blessing from god. This Kalash must not be touched during the nine days. One diya is lit close to this Kalash which is supposed to burn endlessly for nine days. This is known as Akhand Jyoti.

Many people believe that the length of the Shoots determines the Quantum of income that they will have in coming six months. This belief could have been because India is basically an agrarian economy wherein the productivity of the land determined one’s income.

Mahaashtami
The day begins with a recital of Sanskrit hymns by the devotees; they offer prayer to the goddess. Kumari Puja or the worship of little girls as the mother goddess is a special part of the rituals observed in a number of traditional and household pujas.

Mahanavami
The festival of Navratri culminates in Mahanavami. On this day Kanya Puja is performed. Nine young girls representing the nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshiped. Their feets are washed as a mark of respect for the Goddess and then they are offered food mainly consisting of kala chana, halwa and poori along with coconut pieces and dakshina (money) and Red chunri is offerd to the kanjaks.

Vijaya Dashami

After the nine days of Puja, on Dashami, the final day also called Vijaya Dashami, the images of Goddess Durga are carried in processions around the locality by the devotees and finally are immersed in a nearby river or lake.

Colors of Navratri

Durga Navratri is the most sacred and most celebrated festival season in India which has a unique tradition of colors. Colors also play a vital role during this festival. People should opt colors according to each aspect of Devi. The colors represent the nine avatars or incarnations or manifestations of Goddess Durga Maa.
